North Massanutten
Triple Crown
This gravel route loops around the Northern portion of Massanutten mountain, north of highway 211. You’ll be treated to a variety of paved rollers for the first dozen or so miles until you start hitting your first sectors of dirt. The gravel here is smooth and under control. No curveballs here.
For breakfast, lunch and dinner you’ll eat three big climbs, each 1,000+ft. The last of the climbs is the payoff. The sharp switchbacks give you an increasingly gorgeous view of the North Fork Shenandoah River and its many snake like curves.
38mm file treads are great here. You can do this ride on a road bike with 28s but you won’t be able to rail the descents like mother nature intended. The last mile or two of this route takes you on mountain bike singletrack, so if you choose to roll those skinny tires you may want to reroute yourself once you get to this point.
