Logan’s Run
Logan’s Run is an all killer, no filler gravel ride that starts in Buffalo Gap. It’s proximity to Staunton makes it an easy drive from anywhere along I-64 or I-81.
Shortly after a quick jaunt down the main road from the parking area you’ll hit your first climb and the first bits of dirt. In fact, from here, the dirt really doesn’t let up for several hours. You’ll be climbing the various mountain passes through the area almost entirely on choppy gravel. It’s smooth enough but you’ll have to react quickly on the descents as to not get ganked by errant rocks. I suffered my only flat tire of the 2020 season on this route.
There are no resupply points here but plenty of water flowing in and around the mountains for you to filter. If you time this right, you’ll be finishing the ride along with an amazing sunset over the mountains as the shadows dance along the farmland.
If you want to get nutty, add the 2,000ft climb up to Elliot Knob when you’re done!
40mm wide tires are preferred. The descents get hairy. Doable on something more narrow but not as fun!
